Café48 in Pitmedden opening 9th November
The Udny Community Trust is delighted to announce the opening date for our long-anticipated Community Café in Pitmedden.
Café48 will open its doors for the first time at 9:15 on Monday the 9th November and up until Christmas the opening hours will run Monday to Wednesday, 9.15am – 2pm.
We have employed Tracy Gibb, who lives in Pitmedden, to manage the café and she will have a team of both paid staff and volunteers. Tracy has 12 years’ experience in catering most recently in a popular café in Ellon called “Delicious”. Helping Tracy in the kitchen will be her mum Liz who will job share with Agnes and the benefit of this partnership will be excellent fresh food and delicious home bakes. With Liz & Agnes doing all the food preparation we also have 6 volunteers lined up to help with the rest of the café work. We will always be happy to hear from potential volunteers wishing to take up the opportunity of getting involved with this community project.
With this team, we hope to see the cafe develop as a warm and welcoming meeting place in the middle of the village. Our menu of reasonably priced, tasty, and wholesome food will have something to cater for most tastes and dietary requirements. We will serve a wide range of products, locally sourced or Fairtrade where possible and will follow a ‘reduce, reuse, recycle’ ethos as much as we can.
After lengthy negotiations and a grant from the Scottish Land Fund the Udny Community Trust took ownership of the building, formerly known as the Linsmohr hotel, on 20th March2020. Unfortunately, national lockdown commenced three days later which inevitably delayed the project, but we are now almost ready to welcome the public through the doors for the first time in almost 18 months.
We are delighted with the way that the project has progressed to date and are hugely appreciative of the fantastic community support and for the many hours volunteered by local people. We would not have been able to get this far without their help. In addition, we are very grateful to the professional contractors, many of whom are local, who have fitted us in to their busy schedules, allowing us to keep on track for our opening date of 9th November.
